How dare they comment our pronounciation when their's are so poorly conversed people can't even understand? I think only 1 outta 10 (maybe more) knows how to speak proper english. And guess what, they are usally ABCs.
C'mon, almost ALL Singaporean speaks english. Ok, make it 90% speaks english. And out of those 90%, 60% speaks super fluent english, 20% speaks proper ones and 10% speak those that are good enough to bring them almost anywhere.
Apparently, those celebrities (whom criticized our spoken english) sounded so horrid with all their fake american accents. So don't come laugh at Singaporean's where most ang moh could actually interpret what we are talking about. No denial, there ARE odd accents (to the foreigners) in almost all languages we Singaporeans used, but at least we don't go round faking something which is not us. Its originality we are talking about.
Who knows, someday, Singlish will turn out to be an enormously popular lingo that many will die to learn. Like those accents of american or english, singlish might just be one those that foreigners will start favouring on. Instead of "Hey, wassup?", they'll be saying "Oei, ho sey boh!?"
Instead of "Sorry, please excuse me", they'll say " Sqews me ah, paisey".
Imagine Tom Cruise or Angelina Jolie saying those. That'll be fun. Heeheehee.
Happy Vee day once again~ I'll be spending my Vee day wonder-fully -- in class. =_=
Tarah~
